Founder and CEO of Hey Girls Celia Hodson, is set to inspire the next wave of tech entrepreneurs who want to do social good at a live debate hosted by Sifted, the online home of Europe’s startup and tech community next Wednesday at 12pm.
The hour-long Tech for Good: How To Set Up a Social Enterprise talk is part of a full day of online events dubbed the ‘UK Ecosystem Assembly‘, which aims to highlight the UK’s startup ecosystems outside of London.
Impact investing — or investing in ‘tech for good’ — is in vogue, but the sector faces unique challenges. Celia will be sharing everything that fledgling social and sustainability entrepreneurs need to know, alongside fellow panelists including:
- Dr. Marilyn Comrie OBE, director of The Blair Project, which uses self-build electric kart design, construction and racing to inspire under represented youth
- Ravi Gurumurthy, CEO of NESTA, the UK’s leading innovation agency for social good
- Gerald Grech, CEO of Tech Nation, the UK network for tech entrepreneurs
Celia founded Hey Girls in 2018 as a kitchen table start-up. Today, we are a £2m turnover business with two cross border locations (hey team Diss and Musselburgh!). This explosion in turnover has allowed Hey Girls to put our social impact to good use; we have now donated 18 MILLION period products across the UK to aid the fight against period poverty.
As an multi-award winning entrepreneur, Celia (who has an array of accolades including Inspirational Woman of the Year; Social Entrepreneur Of The Year; Saltire Outstanding Women of Scotland and Great British Entrepreneur National Winner), is well versed in the highs and lows of establishing a successful social enterprise. The past three years of business has provided lessons in transport and logistics, stock control, packaging, creating a powerful brand and hiring and empowering the right tribe to help achieve company goals, to name just a few.
The Hey Girls journey in tech advancement has been an ongoing development for the entire team, as we continue to push for a greater online presence and work to connect with customers like never before.
