Sustainable period products direct to your door

Shetland Island Council is committed to supporting dignified access to period products in the most accessible ways possible.  Disposable products are now available in many Council buildings, Council run public toilets, internal ferry services, sports centres, health centres and in many community buildings throughout Shetland.

We understand that it is not always possible, due to personal circumstances, to be able to physically pick up products.  We are currently undertaking a pilot which allows residents, who are unable to reasonably access free period products offered in community locations, to order products online, and have them delivered direct to your door.

We are also committed to being Net Zero by 2045 and addressing climate change by embedding climate conscious practices within the Council and in the community. That’s why we want to be able to support you to use recyclable, reusable and environmentally friendly products.  These are available to anyone resident in Shetland that would like to try them.

We have joined up with Hey Girls, a social enterprise based in Edinburgh, to make this happen.

We hope that you are able to make informed choices about what products are best for you and the environment.

Please note:

• This online postal pilot will run for 6 months after which it will be reviewed.

• Our budget is limited, so if demand is high we may have to cease postal delivery before the end of the 6 month pilot.

• Reusable products – online postal delivery service is intended to meet the needs of all individuals resident in Shetland.

• Disposable products – online postal delivery is intended to meet the needs of individuals, resident in Shetland, who are unable to reasonably obtain free period products offered by the local authority, and where no one else is able to collect on their behalf.

This project has been funded by Shetland Islands Council and the Scottish Government.

How information about you will be used

Your personal information will be processed for the purpose of dealing with your request.

Your information may be shared within the local authority to help improve the services provided by the Council.

The details you enter on this form will also be shared with our supplier Hey Girls so that they can send the products direct to you.
