Here at Hey girls we understand the many changes to your work life you may be experiencing at the moment, so we have came up with our own super handy guide on working from home to make your life just that little bit easier right now. The Hey Girls team are sharing their own tips and experiences on what they have found helpful so far. It’s important to find your new normal working from home so following even just one or two of these could help to make all the difference!
- GET DRESSED
Yes, we know it’s incredibly tempting to stay comfy in your PJ’s all day but even the small act of getting up and dressed first thing in the morning can help put you in the right mindset for work. It’s not to say you need to put on finest suit or that new skirt you bought especially for the office (although if it helps then feel free to) but it’s definitely helpful to pop on some comfortable clothes that aren’t what you’ve just woken up in. This is also a great tip to all the mum’s and dad’s out there currently home schooling – by getting the kids up and dressed it helps them know when it’s ‘school time’ or ‘play time’.
- PLAN YOUR DAY
It’s important to try and stick to some sort of routine in order to be the most productive you can be. Bullet journaling can be a great way to plan your day whilst also being creative. There are some great online tutorials on how to get started on this. Start by setting out your day – some helpful prompts might be, what’s the tasks you need to achieve today? What’s top priority? It might help you to plan your time hour by hour or simply planning the key tasks that need done by the end of the day and working through them at your own pace. Either way factor in time for exercise and regular screen breaks!
- GIVE YOUR MIND SOME TLC
This is an important one – it’s very easy for work/life balance to be disrupted especially if you’re not used to working from home. With the current situation it is normal to feel a little out of sorts or even anxious especially while trying to manage work and your personal life. Some key things to remember are to make time to relax and switch off at a set time. That means no replying to emails at 10pm – turn that laptop off! Work is important, but so is protecting your own mental health. There are some incredibly helpful online yoga tutorials now which can help with any stress you might be experiencing at this time. Even the act of getting up regularly to make a cup of tea can be a great way to relax and take a screen break.
- GET PHYSICAL
Another key tip is to remember the importance of getting regular exercise. Its very easy to stay hunched over your desk all day. But get up and stretch regularly. Your body will thank you for it! Planning in even 30 minutes to 1 hour of exercise in your day can be a really great way to keep you feeling good, both mentally and physically. Go for a walk nearby or put on your favourite fitness video to motivate you.
- STAY CONNECTED
Missing your colleague’s terrible jokes? Or even just the day to day chat with them – then skype or facetime is a great way to catch up. It’s important to factor in some human interaction if you can, making use of technology is a great way to stay up to date with what’s happening in work but also to still feel connected.
- FURRY FRIENDS
The benefit of working from home is that you will have the constant companionship of your furry friend. Make time to cuddle your cat or walk your dog to break up your day and provide some much-needed laughs!
- EMBRACE THE FLEX
Lastly embrace the flexibility that comes from working from Home – you have more freedom to work the way you want to! If you want to blast cheesy 90’s music in the background you can do it! If you want to dance half way through writing up that stressful report you can do it! There are so many positives working from home can bring – it’s just about learning what works for you to fully embrace it.
