How Grŵp Llandrillo Menai partnered with Hey Girls

Grŵp Llandrillo Menai’s female rugby team has partnered with Hey Girls to include reusable period pants as part of the team’s official kit.

We believe periods should not be a reason to not play sport, we wanted to take the worry and stress away so we introduced period pants as part of the kit for the girls team, we provide the shirt and shorts so why not those too?.

This initiative supports players by offering practical, sustainable solutions that help remove barriers to participation during their periods. The partnership not only provides high-quality products but also promotes open conversations and education around menstrual health within the team and wider college community. By taking this step, Grŵp Llandrillo Menai is helping to challenge stigma and ensure that no player feels excluded or uncomfortable because of their period.

The need

Rugby has the power to change lives, it brings people together, helps to grow new skills such as team building and helps all ages to grow in confidence.

71% of girls will avoid playing sports when they are on their period, with almost 60% feeling embarrassed because of their periods! By providing period pants and education, the partnership creates a more supportive, inclusive environment for female athletes.

The impact

It’s been amazing to see what a positive impact the pants have made to the team. Rather than being concerned about their periods and possibly leaking, now all the team needs to think about is the game.

Working with the Hey Girls team has been a great experience. They’ve been supportive, knowledgeable, and genuinely committed to helping us make a positive change for our players. Their guidance made the whole process easy, and their passion for supporting young women in sport really came through. We’re proud to be working with an organisation that shares our values around inclusion, confidence and wellbeing.
