Period Home Packs
The impact of the pandemic and the cost of living crisis has led to devastating consequences for many communities across the UK. In the matter of period poverty, sadly, things seem to have only gotten worse. Studies predict that close to 3 in 10 people are living in period poverty. Due to a combination of reduced incomes and public funding cuts many communities are now unable to afford essential period protection, and Luton is no different. We have joined up with Hey Girls, a social enterprise based in Scotland, to make this happen.
As part of Luton’s 2040 Vision we are undertaking a project to address some of these issues one period at a time. We are also committed to addressing climate change by embedding climate conscious practices within the council and in the community. That’s why we want to be able to support you to use reusable and environmentally friendly products. These are available to anyone resident in Luton that would like to try them.
So if you live in Luton and want to get your hands on some free eco-friendly period products why not order today?
Period Home Packs
Luton Council is committed to supporting dignified access to period products in the most accessible ways possible. We understand that it is not always possible, due to personal circumstances, to be able to physically pick up products. We are currently undertaking a pilot which allows residents, who are unable to reasonably access free period products, to order products online, and have them delivered direct to your door.
‘Hey Girls’ is a fantastic scheme to support period dignity, however there is a limited number of products available and we really want the products to be available for those who need them most. Please only request products if you are in need and do not have the means to access these any other way.
DID YOU KNOW?

• Our budget is limited, so if demand is high we may have to cease postal delivery before the end of the 6 month pilot.
