How do I insert a period cup?

Period cups can be folded in many different ways making them easy to insert just like you would a tampon. When inside the vagina, the cup creates a seal keeping you leak free throughout your cycle.

To remove it, squeeze slightly to break the vacuum seal before pulling out slowly and gently on the tail of the cup (just like you would a tampon string) and rinse it for your next use.

Give a cup a go! It can be intimidating at first, but find what folds work for you and take your time. We have lots of useful guides on our website and socials if you get stuck.

How long can I wear a cup?

You can wear a cup for up to 12 hours! It’s great for sports and swimming as an alternative to tampons.

How do I clean my cup?

Period cups should be sterilised before and after each use.

Pop the cup into boiling water for 2-3 minutes, making sure it’s cooled down before you insert it! You don’t have to use soap but if you do, make sure it’s natural or silicone friendly.

The easiest way to clean your period cup is with our sterilising pot. Simply pop your cup in and fill the steriliser with water up to 1cm below the rim. Place the lid loosely back on top and microwave for 2-3 minutes.

Does the sterilising pot fit any cup in it?

Yes! Both a small or large period cup fits in our sterilising pot, making them the perfect pair for your period!

The sterilising pot is design to fold away when not it use, so it’s easy to take with you on the go or when traveling. The collapsible design makes it easy for your cup and sterilising pot to fit neatly in our Cup Combo Kit washbags.

Absolutely love my hey girls menstral cup, been using my first one for around a year but time for a replacement. They come in cute packaging with a handy bag to keep it in inbetween periods. Really easy to put in and remove and much more environmentally friendly than pads or tampons. The nights of worrying about leaks is over. Added bonus is I get to help a girl who is experiencing period poverty. Also really affordable compared to other brands.

It might have been an unusually heavy day but the cup leaked a bit one day due to overfilling… Otherwise I think I’m pretty much a menstrual cup convert within one cycle. Removal is still a bit tricky!

    Loved it!!!

    Really good service
It’s easy to use, takes a bit of getting used to but not nearly as scary a prospect as I worried for years a menstrual cup would be!

    Amazing price as well ?

  6. Caroline Hanbury

It took me too long to get one of these. Its by far the best menstrual product I’ve used, i’m just sorry I didn’t start using it sooner! Absolutely brilliant.

  7. Iona

Absolutely love it. Applied for it through my colleges period campaign, delivery did take a long time (however this was most likely due to college). Have wanted to try one for a while and with so many different ones on the market it was hard to decide. So grateful I was given the opportunity to try this. There’s no going back now.

  8. Heidi Foy

I am so unbelievably happy with my purchase of the menstrual cup! I suffer with heavy periods and so was quite sceptical of whether or not this cup could keep me leak free but it totally has. It’s easy to use, so comfortable and my period has been a lot less painful since using it too. Great to be able to support a small U.K. business as well as another woman in need. 10/10, I’ll never be going back to pads and tampons, thanks to this product!

  9. Yennifer

So easy to use. Can’t believe there are no leaks. Even with tampons (which are expensive in themselves) I was finding I still had to wear a pad because of leaks. Costing a small fortune every month! I spotted the Hey Girls cup in my local co op and was shocked at the price compared to others on the market it seems so cheap and I probably spend that on tampons, pads and night pads alone each month. When I read the box and it said buy one give one for women in need which is such a thoughtful thing for the company to do to help women in poverty who can’t afford period products.
I’m so impressed with my cup! As I said no leaks and no mess. I hated dealing with tampons and pads. I was always scared to use a tampon at night as they are generally only meant for 4-6 hours. Even with night time pads it wasn’t enough, I’d wake up and straight away could feel that it had spread beyond the pad. Being able to wear the cup overnight has given me such relief. Using pads can be so messy and costly. The cup is so easy to insert and once its in you can’t feel it. Such peace of mind. Thank you for making such a wonderful product, at an amazing price that completely takes the hassle out of a period and makes me feel so much better!

What a game changer this cup is, I absolutely love it and can’t believe how long it’s taken me to start using one.
However, it does leak only when I run. Not sure why this happens but wish there was a solution.
