82% of elite female athletes say their menstrual cycle affects their performance.*

*Source: UK Elite Female Athlete Menstrual Health Report (May 2023)

And yet, half had received no menstrual health support from their sporting organisations, and just 11% had adapted their training around their cycle.

That’s too many athletes left to figure it out alone. And we think it’s time that changed.

Training takes dedication, preparation and focus. But when your period arrives unexpectedly, worrying about leaks, finding a pad or managing discomfort shouldn’t be another thing on your to-do list.

Together with Team Wales, we’re making sure period support is part of the game plan.

When athletes have the products and knowledge they need, they can spend less time worrying about their periods and more time focusing on what they do best.

Supporting Team Wales, on and off the field

Team Wales wanted its female athletes to feel prepared, supported and confident when it comes to their periods. Through our existing connection with Sport Wales, we found common ground in our shared commitment to sustainability, education and athlete wellbeing.

So, together, we’re making sustainable period products and menstrual health education a standard part of how Team Wales supports its female athletes.

“Supporting the female athletes in Team Wales in being prepared for their periods helps reduce anxiety and takes one thing off their list of things to think about.”

- Team Wales

It’s a simple change that can make a real difference.

With period products readily available and menstrual health education helping athletes understand their cycles, they can feel more prepared for whatever competition day brings. No last-minute panic. No unnecessary stress about accessing essentials. Just practical support when it matters.

And the response? Athletes have welcomed having products to hand alongside the knowledge to better understand their menstrual health.

“It was a really positive reception and something we'll definitely repeat going forward.”

- Team Wales

Better support for athletes. A bigger impact beyond sport.

For us, this partnership is about more than helping athletes feel ready for their periods. It’s about making menstrual health a normal part of conversations around sport, breaking down stigma and making sure female athletes get the support they deserve.

And there’s an even bigger impact. At Hey Girls, we reinvest 100% of our profits into tackling period poverty. So, by working with Team Wales, we’re also helping our mission reach people across the UK who can’t afford period products.

Everyone deserves access to period products, the knowledge to understand their body and the confidence to get on with what matters to them.

Ready to make period support part of your game plan?

Whether you’re supporting athletes, students or an entire sporting organisation, we can help you make menstrual health support part of everyday life.

Let’s break down barriers, build confidence and help everyone feel ready to show up and give it their best.
