UCL x Hey Girls: Making Campus period-friendly

University students who have periods miss 10 study days every academic year. For students with diagnosed conditions, that rises to 19 days.*

That’s up to 19 days of lectures, seminars and lab sessions missed every year. Across a three-year degree, that can add up to weeks of lost learning.
And while period pain and health conditions can need proper medical support, no student should have to miss out because they can’t afford period products or don’t have one when they need it.
Together with UCL and Sodexo, we’re making access to period products easier, more reliable and part of everyday campus life.
Students have enough to think about without worrying about where their next pad or tampon is coming from.
Scaling up access to free period products across campus
UCL's Project Period already provides free period products. But making sure students can access them across one of the largest campuses in the UK takes more than simply stocking a few toilets. It takes planning, teamwork and a reliable supply.
That’s where we come in.
Together with Sodexo, UCL’s facilities management partner, we supply sustainable period products and help make provision work across campus. Sodexo takes care of the practical details, from finding the right locations and working with university departments to keeping products stocked up and ready when students need them.
“Access to a pad or tampon when you need one is a basic need, and our role is to help make that provision reliable, accessible, and easier to expand across the university.”
- Andrea Rodriguezguarin, HSEQ Coordinator
From free products to a campus-wide conversation

Since we came on board, more departments across UCL have been getting in touch to introduce or expand their period product provision.
That’s what we love to see. More conversations, more accessible products and more people recognising that period dignity belongs on campus.
Project Period is growing beyond products in toilets. It’s helping bring period poverty, sustainability, choice and access into the conversation across the university.
Making a difference means more than having a pad or tampon available. It means making sure students know where to find products, feel comfortable accessing them and can get on with university life without unnecessary stress.
A little goes a long way
Our work with UCL is about making period products easier to access for students, while creating an impact that reaches far beyond campus.
At Hey Girls, we reinvest 100% of our profits into tackling period poverty. So every order helps support our wider mission to make period products accessible to everyone who needs them across the UK.
It’s a practical change that makes a difference in two places: on campus, where students need products, and in communities where period poverty continues to affect lives.
Ready to make your campus more period-friendly?
Every student deserves the chance to learn, study and enjoy university life without access to period products becoming another barrier.
Whether you’re a university, college or workplace looking to introduce free period products or improve existing provision, we’re here to help make it happen.
Let’s make period products accessible, period poverty part of the conversation, and campuses more inclusive for everyone.
