Having worked with Yorkshire Water for several years, Hey Girls is proud to announce our newest collaboration in an initiative to drive positive change across schools, workplaces, and communities. Through this partnership, we are raising awareness, promoting inclusivity, and encouraging sustainable choices around periods.
Tackling Period Waste Through Education
Every day in the UK, 2.5 million tampons and 1.4 million pads are flushed down the toilet, causing environmental damage and blockages in our water systems. To address this, we’ve joined forces with Yorkshire Water’s Bin It, Don’t Block It campaign, as they deliver educational sessions in schools to spread awareness of sustainable period product options and the impact of improper disposal.
Currently, only 23% of people use reusable period products, so there is a clear need to educate and empower young people with the knowledge to make informed choices that benefit both them and the environment. Through engaging, in-person sessions, we’re creating a new generation of sustainable period product users while protecting our water systems.

Empowering Communities with Train the Trainer Sessions
Education doesn’t stop with students. At Yorkshire Water’s Education Centre, Hey Girls co-founder Kate Smith led Train the Trainer sessions designed to equip staff with essential knowledge and skills to continue advocating for period dignity and sustainability. This programme covers key topics such as:
- The impact of period poverty and how to tackle it
- The environmental footprint of different period products
- The importance of period dignity and equality
- Menstrual health conditions like PMDD and Endometriosis
By empowering Yorkshire Water’s teams with this expertise, we are ensuring that conversations around periods remain open, inclusive, and impactful.
Promoting Workplace Inclusivity with the Home Pack Initiative
Period dignity shouldn’t stop at the school gates, it should extend into the workplace, too. That’s why we’re excited to launch the Home Pack Initiative at Yorkshire Water’s head office. This programme provides sustainable period products to employees, ensuring access to period care and promoting a workplace culture that is inclusive and supportive.
In addition, we’ll be hosting interactive workshops on period dignity to break down stigma, encourage open discussions, and support employees in feeling comfortable and confident about their menstrual health.
This partnership continues to grow, with further training and initiatives on the horizon. By working together, Hey Girls and Yorkshire Water are setting new standards for menstrual health education, workplace inclusion, and sustainability.
