Pupils at a Glasgow secondary school have been raising awareness of the “life-changing” Period Products (Free Provision) Act as part of the city’s first ever Period Dignity Month.

Children at Holyrood Secondary discussed the benefits of the world-first legislation at the event in February, while discussing ways to raise awareness about the act and its benefits ahead of its first anniversary this summer.

Among guests at the event included Lorraine Mohr, the city’s first Period Dignity Officer, Scottish Social Justice Secretary Shona Robison and local councillor Christina Cannon.

Hey Girls are proud to work with Glasgow City Council to provide free period products and education materials to secondary schools in the city.

Georgie Nicholson, our Partnerships and Contracts Manager, spoke at the event.

She said: “It was fantastic to see so many young people speak so enthusiastically about the Period Products Act and how it has helped change so many lives for the better.

“They had so many creative ideas to ensure everyone is made aware of the benefits available to them through the act, and their passion for equality was so clear to see.

“It is amazing to mark the city’s first ever Period Dignity Month and all of us at Hey Girls are looking forward to celebrating the first anniversary of the life-changing legislation we are all so proud of.”

Adverts are now displayed throughout the city to raise awareness of the more than 300 local pickup points made possible through the act and our partnership with both the council and Simon Community Scotland.

The locations offer free Hey Girls products, new underwear and wipes for anyone in need.

The PickupMyPeriod app includes a map of where free period products are available across the UK.

Those looking to find their nearest pickup locations can access a digital map at www.myperiod.org.uk.
