Period dignity on every watch
How Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service partnered with Hey Girls to make free period products available to everyone across the Service
The Challenge
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service had provided period products on its fire appliances for several years. But the team wanted to go further: making free period products available across stations and workplaces for anyone who might need them.
That meant colleagues, fire cadets, King’s Trust students, visitors and members of the community attending open days and events.

Why Hey Girls
The Service wanted a partner that shared its commitment to inclusion, wellbeing and looking after its people. Hey Girls offered a natural fit. The goal was simple: give people access to what they need without awkward conversations, embarrassment or having to ask.

The Impact
What began with one conversation has become a Service-wide commitment to period dignity.
And the impact extends beyond the workplace. As a Social Enterprise, Hey Girls reinvests 100% of profits into tackling period poverty, meaning this partnership supports people in need across the UK
The Result
Today, Hey Girls period products are available free of charge across Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service workplaces and operational units.
The change has been welcomed across the Service, with colleagues sharing stories of times they had needed period products at work but couldn't easily access them.
For Abi, that's what period dignity is all about:
“It’s about making sure people feel supported, included and looked after at work.”
